You've probably heard that Gavin & Stacey is returning for a Christmas special this year, and if you haven't, well...now you have.

The show will see the cast reunite for the first time in nine years and Larry Lamb, who plays Mick Shipman, has admitted that he cried when he read the script's first 'poignant' scene.

Appearing on This Morning, the 71-year-old credited James Corden and Ruth Jones for doing an 'amazing' job of writing the script for the one-hour special.

He said: "It's amazing what James and Ruth have managed to do.

"I've finally read the script. It got me. I just started to read the first little sequence and found myself crying.

"It's like running into somebody who was a major part of your life, and your just so happy about it that it didn't matter what they were doing.

"It wasn't funny or anything, it was just so poignant. I was immediately into the feeling of the whole thing. It just sort of took me along."

Larry also revealed that filming would begin soon, but remained tight-lipped with regard to the plot.

Recounting the moment Corden informed him of plans to do the special, Lamb said he was caught completely off guard.

He said: "It was really odd. I was about to make this phone call then all of a sudden I've got this LA number. 'Larry, it's James, James Corden.' And on it went for 10 minutes.

"He said 'look I just want to know if you'll be available in the next little while because it looks like we're doing a Christmas special',

"It's quite extraordinary the whole thing. Hollywood-esque. Getting this call from a superstar in LA saying 'we're taking a trip down memory lane'."

The actor will no doubt be relieved to at last be able to discuss the special, as he revealed in a series of tweets that he been struggling for the last couple of months not to let the cat out of the bag:

Here's hoping nine years on, the show can still deliver. Hurry up Christmas...
