Life After Bond: What These Famous 007 Women Are Up To Now

Life After Bond: What These Famous 007 Women Are Up To Now

It tends to be a pretty smart career move.

It wouldn't be Christmas without watching a Bond film with the family. Everyone has a favourite 007 (mine is Pierce Brosnan) and also a favourite Bond woman (mine is May Day). Appearing in the franchise is often a stepping stone to Hollywood success while whoever has the job of coming up with their names is amazing.

Here's what a few of our favourite stars got up to once they'd sacked James off.

Monica Bellucci - Lucia Sciarra, SPECTRE

At 51, Italian actress Monica Bellucci raised eyebrows when she was cast in Spectre, which is a bit silly when you consider that Daniel Craig was 47 and no one cared.

She was the oldest actress to ever play a Bond woman and, speaking at the time, she said: "There are a lot of women getting beautiful roles as they get older, and I think it's right. There's a certain beauty with youth, but there's another one that comes with age. Your soul grows, and that's sexy."

Monica has most recently appeared in Amazon's Mozart in the Jungle and has been making headlines for a topless scene.

Ursula Andress - Honey Rider, Dr No

Honey Rider, played by a relatively unknown Swiss actress, Ursula Andress, set the standard in the first Bond film of Dr No. It was her breakthrough role and she became hot property in Hollywood. She made quite a successful career for herself post-Bond, appearing in films alongside Elvis, Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin.

Ursula was actually miming when she starred in Dr No and the character was voiced by Nikki van der Zyl due to her heavy Swiss-German accent.

Grace Jones - May Day, A View To A Kill

To be fair, there isn't much Grace Jones hasn't done. She's been a supermodel, singer, songwriter, record producer and actress, so adding this to the list was probably NBD for her. She still performs as a singer and most recently she contributed a song to the Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 soundtrack.

Teri Hatcher - Paris Carver, Tomorrow Never Dies

Teri actually beat Monica Bellucci to the role. She was already reasonably well known for playing Lois Lane in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, but she actually went on to regret the part in Bond, saying in one interview that it was "such an artificial kind of character to be playing that you don't get any satisfaction from it."

Since playing Paris, which she did while three months pregnant, she became one of the central characters in the massively successful Desperate Housewives.

Rosamund Pike - Miranda Frost, Die Another Day

English actress Rosamund had appeared in a couple of films before being cast for Bond, but her career really picked up after she played Miranda Frost.

She's since starred in critically acclaimed films An Education and Made in Dagenham, but her most famous role is definitely as Amy in Gone Girl. She was nominated for the Academy Award for best actress, a Golden Globe for best actress and a BAFTA for best actress in a leading role after appearing in that movie.

Halle Berry - Jinx, Die Another Day

Halle was already a pretty big star when she appeared as Jinx in Die Another Day, but it certainly didn't hurt her career. As well as being cast in Storm in the X-Men franchise, Halle is also the only black woman to win a Best Actress Academy Award for her role in Monster's Ball.

Gemma Arterton - Strawberry Fields, Quantum of Solace

Although she first appeared in St Trinian's in 2007, it was her role as Strawberry Fields that got her noticed in Hollywood. Since being in a Bond film, the British actress has gone on to appear in Clash of the Titans, Prince of Persia: The Sand of Time and Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters.
