If there's one thing we hate, it's finishing a series we've become obsessed with - no, completely reliant on - and knowing we have to wait ABSOLUTELY AGES to get our next fix. It tests even the most patient of people.

Fans of Rick and Morty are used to having to wait a fair while for the next instalment of the cult animated sci-fi sitcom - with one recently tweeting: "I'm just going to come out and say it: There is absolutely no reason why Rick and Morty should be taking 2/3 year breaks between seasons. The production value of the show isn't even that high end for all of that. And for only 10 episodes per season too? They're moving mad."

Another agreed, writing: "Everyone's creative process is different. But feel it it's annoying."

But by the sounds of things, these painfully long breaks could be a thing of the past, as the show's co-creator Justin Roiland promised there wouldn't be having the 'chasms' in between seasons anymore. Woohoo!

Speaking to Polygon last summer about the new 70 episodes Adult Swim had ordered, Roiland said they were 'super excited'.

"For the first time ever, we're locked in, we know what the future is, we have job security," he said.

"[Co-creator Dan] Harmon is in great spirits, we have a great writer's room. We want the episodes to stay good, but we do also want to try to turn them around a little quicker now that we have this big order, I think it gives us the ability to be faster.

"We're not going to do these long breaks, these chasms in between seasons anymore. We're going to schedule vacation time and just keep the machine going. It's going to be really cool."

Roiland also said he was stunned at how successful the programme has been, adding: "I can't believe the merch, how big it's become.

"I'm waiting for it to be like, 'That's enough. Get it out of my face now'. But hopefully if we put out really smart, funny episodes, we'll be able to ride that wave."

In May last year, it was confirmed the show had been commissioned for a further 70 episodes - though at the time it wasn't clear how many series the episodes will be spread across. However, at least the gaps between any potential seasons won't be quite as extreme as we've experienced.
