The Netflix show Abducted In Plain Sight has captivated audiences around the world for having a plot genuinely out of this world.
The story centres on a young girl getting kidnapped not once, but twice by the same man, who also managed to have sexual relations with the girl's mum and dad on separate occasions.
But one glaring detail was left out of the book and has only been released now.
Filmmaker Skye Borgman says abductor Robert Berchtold was able to manipulate 12-year-old Jan Broberg's parents because he had a dirty secret with both of them.
The book didn't include details of what happened between Berchtold and Bob Broberg in a car where the criminal got the dad to stimulate his genitals. That's why he was able to blackmail the family and make them do what he wanted.
Skye Borgman has told Vanity Fair: "I think Bob realized that it was a critical element to the story, and how [Berchtold] was able to get into their family this way so seamlessly.
"We certainly couldn't find any indication that [anything sexual between the two] continued.
"I'm not sure that it matters if there was or if there wasn't, because it was this one indiscretion that really gave Berchtold the ammunition he needed to blackmail the head of the household."
Skye added that Robert Berchtold, told his victim that she had been abducted by aliens and the only way to save the alien race was to have a baby with him.
She admits that while the story sounds outlandish, he used this on other victims to get his way. He would tell them 'you're a princess of another planet'.
This all took place in the 1970s, when UFO paranoia and speculation was rampant, so you can imagine why stories like this would have stuck.
It seems there's even more to the tale, as the director believes there's enough material for a sequel, or even two.
In order to streamline the documentary, filmmaker Skye Borgman was forced to leave out several elements of the story, including a meet-up between Jan's mother, Mary Ann, and kidnapper Robert Berchtold, which allegedly involved both Mary Ann's brother and a gun.
Borgman also spoke to a forensic psychologist, who provided her with court transcripts and evidence of Berchtold's fixation with Jan.
The show has certainly been a big talking so a sequel would be brilliant.
