THIS ARTICLE IS FULL OF SPOILERS REGARDING THIS NEW SERIES' LATEST EPISODE
Catfish is such a brilliant piece of telly. It reminds me of the old days when you'd speak to strangers on MSN and have absolutely no idea who they are. Just me?! Okay.
For those of you who don't know what a catfish is, (nope, not the fish), here's an Urban Dictionary description.
"A catfish is someone who pretends to be someone they're not using Facebook or other social media to create false identities, particularly to pursue deceptive online romances."
In the series, these people have genuinely fallen in love with someone over the Internet, despite the fact they've never actually met them in real life. Weird, right? And keep up with this particular story as it has more layers than an onion.
Well, in the latest episode aired on MTV in the USA, Max and Nev (the presenters), meet Spencer. He 100 percent believes that he's been in a six-year relationship with the one and only Katy Perry. He's received emails for years from someone he genuinely believes is the pop star, poor lad.
The thing is, she was a) married to Russell Brand and b) now presumably in a relationship with Orlando Bloom. Hmm...

Of course, he isn't in a relationship with her. But you try telling him that.
Nev and Max tracked the person in question down who has been sending him emails and found her in England, and goes by the name of Harriet. Yep, she's British. Spencer is in complete denial, and states that this woman's 'writing style' in the emails is totally different to the love of his life - Katy Perry.
He even thinks that Katy Perry's hidden clues for him in the lyrics to her songs and he's figured them out. Anyway, they all get to England from the USA and find out Harriet (the Catfisher) is a lesbian. More and more curious...
Harriet admits to the whole thing, and even answers questions that only 'Katy' would know the answer to.
BUT THEN OUTTA NOWHERE...
Spencer insists that he's still seeing Katy. Fuck's sake.
The crew can't even believe it.
Eventually, he seems to come to terms with the situation.
Three months later, Nev and Max catch up with both Harriet and Spencer. She then drops the bombshell that Spencer emailed 'Katy's' email address (so... Harriet's - is this getting confusing?) saying that some British girl was claiming to catfish him.
Put a fork in me, I'm done.
Hopefully the real Katy Perry was watching the episode and reaches out to Spencer to put this to bed (in his dreams) once and for all.
Catfish airs at 8pm every Thursday on MTV in the UK. We hope it's not long til this episode comes to British shores.
