Ooops, he's gone and done it again

So, of all people, Mark Ruffalo went and broke the cardinal rule of Marvel films: don't give away any spoilers. That's right the mild-mannered Hulk actor had a 'spoiler slip' on the Jimmy Fallon show and announced the name of the upcoming Avengers 4 film.

Twitter

Until that point the name had been a closer guarded secret than private discussions in the Oval Office, and fortunately the talk show did bleep out his misdemeanor, but Ruffalo took to Twitter before the interview aired to apologise for his mistake.

He said: "@JimmyFallon, I trust that you will cut my spoiler slip on the show tonight. That was "off the record" homey. Please don't get me in trouble with Marvel (Barry) again. DM me back. M."

Can we quickly deter and just appreciate for a moment Mark Ruffalo called Jimmy Fallon 'homey'?

Anyway, the tweet was quickly spotted by the Avengers 4 directing team and they responded with three simple, yet dramatic, words: "Mark, you're fired" - sorry, what?

Okay, this is clearly a joke but the whole situation has put Marvel fans in a bit of a frenzy as we know all fans of the film series are dying to get any information about the upcoming movie, which definitely puts the acting cast - all known for a jovial nature - in a position of power.

Can you really blame any of them for wanting to have a little joke about the ultimate 'in-joke'?

Even so, you couldn't be shocked if Ruffalo did face a slap on the wrists for his mistake as he's definitely not known for being able to get though the filming process without giving up a spoiler or two.

During the interview he even confirmed this when he said: "I sort of, in the past, maybe have given up things, spoilers.

"I basically spoiled the end of Avengers: Infinity War with Don Cheadle, who will no longer do press with me. I've been put under surveillance by Marvel."

This is where he is referring to his interview with Good Morning America when he said: "Wait 'till you see this next one, half... everybody dies," ooops.

Bless him, he did attempt a backtrack when he said: "Not everybody. Can we rewind that part? Am I in trouble? Is Barry gonna be mad?"

Barry may have been mad, but Avengers fans were on the edge of their seats.
