Marvel Makes History In 2019 Oscar Nominations With Black Panther

Black Panther has made history today by becoming the first EVER Marvel film to be nominated for the highly coveted Best Picture Oscar.

The film will be going up against rival nominees BlacKkKlansman, Bohemian Rhapsody, The Favourite, Green Book, Roma, A Star is Born and Vice at this year's Academy Awards ceremony on Sunday 24 February.

And that's not even the half of it, as Black Panther has also received nods in six other categories: Production Design, Sound Mixing, Costume Design, Sound Editing and Best Original Score and Original Song.

The 2018 hit, starring Chadwick Boseman, was one of the highest-grossing film of last year, and managed to get awards season off to a strong start when it also became the first Marvel movie to be nominated for a Best Picture Golden Globe. It was also nominated for Best Original Score and Original Song.

Better still, Marvel has yet more cinematic recognition at the 91st Academy Awards thanks to Avengers: Infinity War, which has been nominated for Best Visual Effects, and Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, which is up for Best Animated Film.
