Michael Bay Is Producing A Live-Action 'Dora The Explorer' Movie And We're Not Joking

Michael Bay, probably best known for The Transformer movies, will be working on the project under his Platinum Dunes banner.

Remember Dora The Explorer? The little girl and her sidekick, Boots the monkey, went on hundreds of adventures from 2000 to 2014, teaching millions of kids about problem solving, teamwork and the Spanish language along the way. Lovely.

The show was massively popular, so it seems only right that it would get a live-action spin-off...produced by Michael Bay. Didn't see that coming, did you?

So, just to reiterate, the same producer who made The Texas Chainsaw Massacre; The Purge and Friday the 13th, will now be working on Dora the Explorer.

Bay, probably best known for The Transformer movies, will be working on the project under his Platinum Dunes banner. Nick Stoller, who wrote the reboots of the Muppet movies - and sounds like a more natural fit - has been signed up, too. No stars have been linked with the movie just yet, but a loose plot-line has been reported.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the movie will star a teenage Dora, unlike the cartoon, where she was seven, who moves to a new city to be with her cousin, Diego. What the pair get up to is anyone's guess.

Can we expect to see Dora kicking arses or Backpack having the ability to change into a car? Shia LaBeouf as an absolutely spot on Swiper? Let's hope so.

Dora was one of Nickelodeon's most popular and longest-running shows and has already been turned into live stage shows, computer games and books. So, I guess a film like this was inevitable, really, there's money to be made.

The movie is set for release in 2019, so we've got a bit of a wait to find out, but let's keep our finger's crossed. I'm all for grittier remakes of our childhood favourites, let's get Postman Pat running an international drug ring via Royal Mail. Bob the Builder taking part in bare knuckle boxing matches.

There's definitely a market for this, don't you think?
