While she was on the show, her mum thought she'd run off to go and work on a marijuana farm, as you do.

One of the most boring and predictable shows on television has had something actually slightly interesting (and definitely amusing) happen to it.

The Bachelor - ABC's brain-numbing reality series in which one American guy chooses one American gal by giving her a rose - landed itself in the headlines recently when one of the show's contestants was reported missing by her mother, the Daily Mail reports.

WATCH REBECCA MARTINEZ ON THE BACHELOR:

Fan favourite Rebecca Martinez, was reported missing by her mother on 18 November after she hadn't heard from her 22-year-old daughter for six days - during which time she thought Rebecca was on her way to start working on a marijuana farm.

A local paper later published pictures and names of everyone missing in the county, including Martinez, and asked people to get in touch if they knew anything about the location of these individuals.

One eagle-eyed reader quickly got in touch with the paper to let them know Rebecca was safe and sound - just busy relegating herself to the annals of one of the most tired reality TV genres.

The Bachelor started filming in September and was likely to have continued through to December, so she would have been filming at the same time she was reported missing.

Martinez then took to Twitter to let her mum know she doesn't have cell phone service while filming the show.

"MOM. how many times do I have to tell you I don't get cell service on The Bachelor??" she wrote.

She also added: "Honestly the scariest thing about this story is that my efforts to conceal The Worst Drivers License Photo Of All Time have been thwarted".

And, if you needed more encouragement to accept your mum's Facebook friend request, she was active on social media while she was reported missing. Martinez wrote about 30 posts on Instagram, which included one posted on 22 November - only four days after she was reported missing.

Martinez, who lists her occupation as a 'nanny' on The Bachelor website, has been a popular contestant on the show, noted for her over-the-top reactions to the shows drama.

At 22 she is also the youngest contestant on The Bachelor this year - and 14 years younger than 36-year-old race car driver bachelor, Arie Luyendyk Jr. - the man whose heart she is trying to win.

What a palaver, eh?
