Netflix has finally given us our first snippet of Martin Scorsese's The Irishman and it looks pretty bloody good.

The teaser trailer dropped during the 91st Academy Awards and has already got film fans excited.

One wrote: "The holy trinity of gangster actors coming together with Martin Scorsese again to recreate another crime story.....YES."

Another added: "Don't need any footage. You had us at De Niro, Pacino, Pesci, Scorsese. We're all in."

As well as having Scorsese at the helm the new flick has an impressive cast, with Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Harvey Keitel, Joe Pesci, Anna Paquin, and Ray Romano all starring.

As you've probably already guessed given the cast and crew involved, The Irishman is a mobster movie; based on a book called I Hear You Paint Houses, a story by Charles Brandt.

It follows the story gangster Frank 'The Irishman' Sheeran who becomes involved with fellow mobster, Jimmy Hoffa - perhaps with deadly consequences.

The clip was shared on the official Netflix Films twitter account with the caption: "Already in LOVE with this film. A truly iconic combination of actors, writer and director. The Irishman, directed by Martin Scorsese..."

Speaking last year, Scorsese stressed that although this is a return to gangster flicks for him, this upcoming one isn't like anything we've seen before.

He revealed to the Independent: "This is different, I think it is. I admit that there are - you know, Goodfellas and Casino have a certain style that I created for them - it's on the page in the script actually.

"Putting Goodfellas together was almost like an afterthought, at times I was kind of rushing, I felt I'd already done it because I'd played it all out in terms of the camera moves and the editing and that sort of thing.

"The style of the picture, the cuts, the freeze-frames, all of this was planned way in advance, but here it's a little different."

Well, this sounds good, doesn't it?

Although no official date has been announced by the streaming giant just yet, the trailer teases us with by sharing a nice and vague 'fall' release. Similar to Netflix's Roma, which was nominated for a bunch of Oscars, The Irishman will also be screened in selected cinemas as well as via the usual streaming platform.
