Netflix has just announced that its hit series 13 Reason Why will be returning for a second season on 18 May - as well as dropping a new trailer:

It's been just over a year since the original season premiered and fans were left with a lot of unanswered questions over Hannah Baker's death when it ended.

The second season picks up where the first left off, as Liberty High prepares to go on trial. And, judging by the trailer, it looks as though this season might have the cast working their way through a series of ominous Polaroid's, rather than cassettes.

It also looks like most of the cast will be back, to help answers some of those questions.

Earlier this year, Netflix released the results of a huge study it had commissioned in order to make some 'important changes' to the show.

The international study, which it commissioned through Northwestern University's Centre on Media and Human Development, surveyed 5,400 teenagers, young adults and parents in the US, UK, Australia, New Zealand and Brazil, to find out how the show could be improved and what areas it handled well, MTV reports.

And some of the findings must have been an eye-opener for show runners - with over half of the teens and young adults asked saying they wanted the show to have more discussion about what viewers can do if they know someone who is suffering from similar issues to those portrayed in the show.

Sixty-two to 74 percent of parents also said they wanted more resources from mental health professionals.

Researchers also found that 74 to 80 percent of the teens and young adults asked agreed that the issues they saw in 13 Reasons Why reflected issues people their age deal with, and 63 to 74 percent said that the intensity was appropriate.

As a result, Netflix has added more info on the 13ReasonWhy.info site and is going to begin each season with a video message from the show's actors speaking out about ways to get help and support.

There's also set to be an aftershow, which will have 13 Reasons Why stars as well as experts sharing stories viewers have told them, in a series of YouTube clips called 'Tell Them' - which you can check out here.

The second season of 13 Reasons Why hits Netflix on 18 May - the first is already available for you to binge watch right now.
