John Wick isn't just an outstanding knuckle tattoo choice, it's also a film franchise. And while they might not have the commercial heft of some of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the films have garnered serious critical acclaim since the series debuted back in 2014, and viewers have loved them.

Film fans are eagerly anticipating the next movie in the sequence, and they'll be delighted to know that there are new details to announce. John Wick: Chapter 3 is due to start filming at the end of the month and we now have a plot summary and teaser posters to boot.

"John Wick (Keanu Reeves) is on the run for two reasons... he's being hunted for a global $14 million dollar open contract on his life, and for breaking a central rule: taking a life on Continental Hotel grounds," reads the blurb.

"The victim was a member of the High Table who ordered the open contract."

It continues: "John should have already been executed, except the Continental's manager, Winston, has given him a one-hour grace period before he's 'Excommunicado' - membership revoked, banned from all services and cut off from other members.

"John uses the service industry to stay alive as he fights and kills his way out of New York City."

That might not mean much if you haven't seen the first two movies, but if you have, it'll be enough to get you salivating - as will the the new teaser poster:

Speaking last year to Collider, director Chad Stahelski explained his vision for the film, saying: "We want, not so much to go bigger on the third one, but to show you more of the intricacies of the world."

He added: "I feel like there are all these different subtleties that I skipped over in Number Two, that I'd like to go back to on [chapter three] and show you the inner workings of different parts of New York.

"So rather than massive set pieces, I'd like to show you cooler and more intricate ones.

"I think it would be a mistake budget wise and creatively to just go big and blow up a freeway. That's not our gig. That's a comic book or a Bond gig. We want to show you cool and intricate details.

"What are those little details in everyday life? Hopefully - we make people look at garbage collectors and cleaner vans and homeless people a little differently now."

We're excited. You should be too.

It's pretty easy to see why audiences and critics alike are fond of the franchise. Keanu Reeves' performances as the eponymous title character have revived his career, while the 'gun fu' style of combat choreography has continually delivered in terms of actions and style across the two films.

Get the popcorn in, LADs, looks like the third instalment is going to be a doozy.
