New Jay And Silent Bob Movie To Start Filming Next Month

Hey, here's some news that will cheer up fans of stoner/buddy comedy films. A new Kevin Smith film starring everyone's favourite wasters, Jay and Silent Bob, has been given the green light to start filming.

It's going to be called Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. Make of that what you will.

The good news was announced by director/writer Smith - who also plays Silent Bob, alongside his old friend Jason Mewes as Jay - as he posted on Instagram to tell his followers that the film had been picked up by Saban Films. He even revealed that they'll be looking for some members of the public to appear in the film as extras. Stay tuned.

In his - well, Jay's - own inimitable style, Smith said: "SNOOTCH TO THE REBOOTCH! Thanks to Saban Films and Universal Entertainment, #JayAndSilentBobReboot gets the green light!"

He added that filming will start in New Orleans on 25 February, and - of course - he and Mewes will return as the titular characters.

First appearing in Clerks back in 1994, Jay and Silent Bob have become something of an unlikely cultural phenomenon. Who could forget their turn in Dogma? It's a simple trick, but an effective one.

The last time the pair appeared on the silver screen - in a live action flick, at least - was 2006's Clerks II, a belated sequel which inspired mixed reactions among fans.

However, it was 2001's Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back which fully pushed them out of the cult film section and into the public consciousness, seeing them appear in video games, animated movies and live performances.

Smith even went on to explain some of the reasons that he has decided to make the film, as well as what the premise of the new movie is going to be.

There is a serious side. The day that filming will commence is almost exactly a year since Smith nearly died after suffering a heart attack.

Smith recently told Deadline: "Last February, I almost died. So, on the one-year anniversary of my widow maker heart attack, as a celebration of life and a big ol' F you to Death, my best friend and I will be rolling cameras on a sequel/remake/reboot of a movie we first made nearly twenty years ago!

"In Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, our herbal heroes found out Hollywood was making a movie based on them, so they journeyed out to Hollywood to stop it. But I've learned so much as a storyteller and have grown immensely as a filmmaker since then, so audiences can expect something completely different."

Oh yeah? What is that then?

Smith continued: "In Jay and Silent Bob Reboot our herbal heroes find out Hollywood is making a reboot of the old movie that was based on them, so they journey out to Hollywood to stop it again."

Always the same, always different. Can't wait.
