An 'Obvious Plothole' In Episode One Of Game Of Thrones Season Six Wasn't Actually A Plothole

An 'Obvious Plothole' In Episode One Of Game Of Thrones Season Six Wasn't Actually A Plothole

Explained...

We've all seen the first episode of Game of Thrones now, haven't we? If you haven't, then I'll say what I said to the people in the first potential Game of Thrones spoiler article we did and tell you to politely, fuck off.

We'll have no whingers about spoilers here. You've been warned.

Now, onto the issue at hand. When we posted about the Lady Melisandre 'plothole', our comments section was full of people moaning about another supposed plothole. What happened to the dogs and their handler when Lady Brienne of Tarth rescued Sansa Stark from the clutches of Ramsay Bolton's search party?

With a little help from Reddit user vitoanthony3, that plothole has been filled in.

There is a lot of talk in the episode and in previous seasons about Ramsay's dogs and what they can do to a person. In a nutshell, they're not the kind of dog you could sit and video on your smartphone in the hope they go viral.

In season 4, we get a good look at Ramsay's attack dogs that are really good for ripping people to shreds. Here they are...

Now, you should be able to recall that in the first episode of season six, the dogs that went searching for Sansa Stark and Reek looked like this...

The simple explanation as to why those dogs didn't attack Lady Brienne and Podrick Payne is because they weren't attack dogs at all but bloodhounds and therefore really good at finding people, not killing people.

Later in the thread started by vitoanthony3, other commenters also explain:

I counted 6 Bolton men from the start(4 on horse, 2 on foot) but we only saw 5 get killed, so I think the reasonable answer is, one ran away immediately with the hounds and I am betting he shows up at Winterfell in the next episode. - Jaxwagen

In the preview for 6.02 (season six, episode two) you actually see the missing man in Winterfell having delivered news of Sansa's whereabouts to Roose and Ramsay, so this is correct. - A_Polite_Noise

So there you have it GoT fans, put your pitchforks down, it wasn't a plothole or a continuity error, it was just poor editing. It would probably have been helpful if they added a half a second clip of the dogs and their handler running away.

Now that's all cleared up, who's excited for episode two?
