Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight has said that he has a role all planned for Stephen Graham.

Graham, who played gangster Al Capone in HBO's Boardwalk Empire, has been a bit of a fan-favourite to join the hit show and it looks like Knight agrees. However, he won't be popping up in season five.

During a recent interview on BBC Sounds' Obsessed With... Peaky Blinders podcast, Knight was asked who he would like to star in the show.

He answered: "Stephen Graham. Don't worry... we're proceeding with that, but not for this series.

"Not Al Capone - I didn't want to go west. Because it's a minefield once you go into Chicago gangsters. I refer to him last series, but I didn't want to go into that.

"The amount of people who have come to us wanting to be in it is quite astonishing, and really good people. So, what I've tried to avoid before is turning it into a spot the celebrity - you know, because I think it's quite distracting sometimes."

He also teased that as the final two seasons come closer, he's willing to 'relax' and get some other 'amazing people' involved. Sounds interesting.

Peaky Blinders season five is out later this year.

And it seems as though nabbing Graham for a role isn't just a passing idea, as he also revealed he's got a character in mind, but kept schtum when pressed further.

Earlier today, the BBC dropped the first trailer for the upcoming fifth season and fans are getting very excited.

Sharing the trailer, the BBC tweeted: "Power comes at a price. Get ready for the new series of #PeakyBlinders, coming soon to @BBCOne and @BBCiPlayer."

According to a synopsis for the next season, we'll see the Shelby's world 'thrown into turmoil by the financial crash of 1929', while Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy), becomes an MP for South Birmingham.

"Opportunity and misfortune are everywhere," the summary explains.

"When Tommy Shelby MP is approached by a charismatic politician with a bold vision for Britain, he realises that his response will affect not just his family's future but that of the entire nation."

As yet no release date has been revealed, but we'll make sure to keep you posted once it is.
