'Game Of Thrones': Peter Dinklage Thinks The Time Is Right For The HBO Series To Finish

The actor, who plays Tyrion Lannister, thinks 'it's time to move on'

Well, winter is very much here, and - much like in Westeros - it promises to be a long and cold one. What's worse is that there is not even the light of new Game of Thrones in the distance this year.

The new season isn't out until at least 2019. Even worse than that - it's going to be the last season ever. They'll probably do a whole load of spin-off shows, but they probably won't be able to come close to the original show.

However, not everyone is so gutted about the show going off the air. In fact, plenty of the actors are probably pretty happy about it.

It's been on our screens for a good few years now, and some of the characters (the ones who have managed not to get killed off) have been at it from the very start.

One of those is Peter Dinklage, and he says that while he might miss the show once it's gone, and it has been great to work on, the decision to end the show is the right one in his opinion.

He said: "This is the final season, so it's pretty long, it's a long one. We're really taking our time with this one. It's bittersweet.

It's time to move on with everything, so it's the sad part of our business, we get pockets of great people for short amounts of time and then you have to move on and it's always heartbreaking, especially when you've spent more than a couple months with people.

"But yeah, it's time. Story wise, not just for all of our lives. I think if they went any further...it's the perfect timing to end it. Sometimes shows stay on a little too long. The 'jumping the shark' thing."

He's right too. Since the show moved away from the books, everything in the World of GoT has happened much quicker and moved dangerously close to shark-jumping territory.

In recent seasons there has been a quicker pace to the moving of pieces around the chessboard, trying to get all of the major characters into position (sometimes in unbelievably quick fashion) for the final showdown between good and evil.

In fairness, George R.R. Martin has been trying to do exactly that for 7 years and hasn't managed so we should probably cut the show's writers some slack.

At least the actors know the dangers they face and will be putting in a shift to make sure that they don't mess up the show's ending.
