'Pimp My Ride' Contestants Reveal What Actually Happens On The Show

It's a bit different behind the scenes.

Back in the day, sometimes there was no option other than to whack on MTV, grab a pack on Doritos and watch Pimp My Ride.

There was something about Xzibit turning up at someone's house, slagging off their car, then taking it to a garage for Mad Mike to install 14 mini TV screens in the wheels, that just screamed entertainment.

As useless as a BBM messenger in the boot and an egg poacher in the glove box was in reality, we couldn't help but be jealous of the newly pimped out rides. But what really went on when the cameras were off?

Jake Glazier, who appeared on the show in its prime, revealed all about the show.

One time I let

On Reddit, he revealed that, despite some elements of surprise when it came to filming, a lot of it is scripted.

"I was actually surprised when Xzibit showed up to the door, because up until that point everyone with MTV had led me to believe that I was merely 'one of five finalists' and that it was just a practice to see how I would react," Jake wrote. "When it was, I knew it was real. So even though a lot is for show, there definitely was an element of surprise maintained for certain moments."

While the impressive transformation to Jake's car looked great on camera, and was edited down to look like it had been done in a matter of days, he revealed that it actually took six months.

While his ride was being pimped, he was given a Mitsubishi Lancer to cruise around in. As it turns out, he was probably better off just being given the Lancer, as even though his car got a lot of cool technological updates, the faulty mechanics weren't fixed.

"They didn't do a damn thing with any of the mechanical issues," Jake wrote on Reddit.

Because of this, he tried selling his car. Unfortunately, MTV told him that he couldn't put the car on eBay, but he tried anyway. Viacom contacted him within hours of putting it up for sale on the site, requesting he took it down.

Eventually, off his own back, he managed to sell the car for $18,000, making a cool $17,500 profit.

Other contestants on the show revealed that a lot was done to make the cars seem worse than they were. Justin, who appeared on the show, said that the front bumper was torn off his Toyota, as well a dent on the side being made worse.

Another guy, called Seth, commented that the producers played on his weight, spreading sweets across his car, saying that he kept them there 'in case he got hungry'.

All the contestants seem to agree that Xzibit is a pretty cool guy, though. Jake said that he and X ate about six full packets of Cheetos, which is pretty much something everyone should aspire to do.

News flash, the man who said: "All jokes aside, come bounce with us/ Standin' over you with a 12 gauge, about to bust/ It's like ashes to ashes and dust to dust/ I might leave in the bodybag, but never in cuffs" is a really, fucking awesome guy.
