It's a shame he's wrong.

The question of who is the best Quentin Tarantino character is one that can never be answered properly, no matter how many times it might be brought up. It's a source of countless pub disagreements, because over his 30-year career as a director, the legendary filmmaker has created countless memorable characters.

Vincent Vega in Pulp Fiction, Mr. Blonde in Reservoir Dogs, and The Bride in Kill Bill are just a few of the iconic characters to appear throughout his nine feature films.

The 53-year-old auteur has recently announced that he plans on retiring after his tenth film in order to focus his attentions on writing film criticism and books. Although he has admitted that he might one day 'have another story to do'.

But what does he think is his best character?

Film website Screen Daily has reported that he thinks it's Landa, played by Christoph Waltz, in his World War II thriller, Inglourious Basterds.

Speaking at a screening at the Jerusalem Film Festival, before a screening of his 1994 masterpiece Pulp Fiction, he said: "Landa is the best character I've ever written and maybe the best I ever will write. I didn't realise [when I was first writing him] that he was a linguistic genius."

Quentin has previously said that he was one week away from pulling the plug on the film in 2009, before he discovered and auditioned Waltz, as he could not find an actor talented enough to play Landa.

He told Indie Wire: "I wanted Germans, playing Germans, speaking German. I was getting to be kinda' worried. Unless I found the perfect Landa, I didn't want to make the movie.

"It was just obvious [Waltz] was the guy. He could do everything we wanted. He was just amazing. We were ecstatic when he finished. We were just vomiting all over him: 'Oh my god, you were amazing, you were fantastic. Oh my god. Thank you, thank you, thank you'."

He makes a fair point, but there are still a load of other great characters in his films. Personally, I'd say Uma Thurman's Bride in Kill Bill just pips Landa.

What do you reckon, lads, do agree with Quentin or have you got another favourite?
