It'll be the last Rambo movie that Sylvester Stallone will do...for now.

Despite Sylvester Stallone being past the tender age of 70, the movie star still has what it takes to bust out an epic action film.

Finally we're able to stop holding our collective breath (come on, you all were holding, weren't you?) about when the upcoming Rambo movie was going to be released.

Well folks, we're glad to tell you that it will debut later this year on September 20.

It will be Stallone's final Rambo movie, a franchise that has spanned five films and grossed more than $750 million at the worldwide box office.

The final instalment to the franchise appears to be going in the direction of a cowboy film. Sly shared a shot of himself in a full cowboy style get up with the hashtag #Rambo5.

He posted it on his personal Instagram, and added a comment afterwards that said: "Tonight we start filming...!"

There you have it. John Rambo is back, and this time he's a cowboy. He then also shared another shot of himself on horseback with the caption: "Comes a horseman Wild and Free."

A cursory Google search reveals that to be a lyric from a song called 'Don Quixote'. The song tells of a hero on horseback - perhaps a nod to the content of the film? We'll have to wait and see.

Unlike the other Rambo films, this one is going to take place in the USA and Mexico and will see Sly's character - who now suffers with severe Post Traumatic Stress Disorder - living in Arizona on a ranch.

Apparently, the granddaughter of a good friend is kidnapped and taken deep into Mexico by a drug cartel, that means that John Rambo has to get back into the habit and head on down there after them.

That's premise enough for another bloody Rambo battle, you'd have to think. For more than that we'll have to wait until next Autumn, when the film is scheduled to be released.

That said, we should just be glad that it's happening at all. In recent times, Sly has hinted that some of his days in the more physical roles might be behind him.

He told Variety magazine: "The heart's willing, but the body says, 'Stay home'.

"It's like fighters that go back for one last round and get clobbered. Leave it to someone else."

Now the countdown is on until September 20 for this absolute bloodbath to begin.
