Tony Stark never leaves.

Chris Evan's Captain America might be The First Avenger but it's fair to say that Robert Downey Jr's Tony Stark is the star of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His first Iron Man movie got the Marvel ball rolling, and eight years and a squillion dollars later it's still going strong.

The studio's latest offering Captain America: Civil War has hit cinemas today to pretty much universal acclaim. The show pits Cap against Iron Man as they argue over something or other. During the movie Stark recruits a young Peter Parker onto his team and it marks the first time that Spider-Man has ever appeared in the MCU.

If you're a fan, this is all terribly exciting. Civil War will presumably lead nicely into Spider-Man: Homecoming which is set to be released next year. We don't know too much about the film except that it will star Tom Holland as Parker, Marisa Tomei as Aunt May and will be directed by Jon Watts.

Oh and Robert Downey Jr. will make an appearance, THR have reported. It is unknown how strongly he'll be involved in the movie but it's probably safe to assume it'll be more than a little cameo.

Downey Jr. is also contracted to star in two further Avengers films: Infinity War, parts one (2018) and two (2019).

As for another solo outing as the billionaire playboy, Downey Jr. has been quick to dismiss it in the past but now he may have had a change of heart.

During a special Nightline feature for ABC, he said: "I feel like I could do one more."

He didn't elaborate on it at all but it's the first time he's even teased the possibility of it. There are no plans for the movie as of yet so only time will tell if anything comes of it.

If it goes ahead it would be his 11th appearance as Stark, following on from Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Avengers, Iron Man 3, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Spiderman: Homecoming, Avengers: Infinity War Part One, Part Two and a brief cameo in The Incredible Hulk.

Just where that would fit into the schedule if the film does come to fruition is another kettle of fish completely.

Spider-Man: Homecoming is released in July 2017.
