As we all know, Ross Kemp is the hardest man on TV. He makes Ray Winstone look like a wet flannel and Roy Cropper the dampest of towels.

Ain't no hard man on tele like Ross Kemp.

I take the piss but it takes a lot of balls to travel to Syria in the current climate and that's exactly what the 51-year-old actor did to make a documentary - so fair play to him.

Upon his return, he's been speaking to press about his trip where he revealed he was actually shot at by an ISIS sniper while filming.

He said: "It's a journey to one of the most dangerous places on Earth. I witness the devastation caused by ISIS.

"Our route to safety was dangerously exposed. The sniper opened fire on us as I was just a few feet from cover and the crew were still trying to get across."

The incident took place on the west bank of the Euphrates river in Syria where he also met Kurdish forces taking on the terror group.

In the northern Iraqi town of Sinjar, Kemp interviews a captured jihadist soldier as well as talking to Kurdish fighters.

"The Kurds are a beacon of light in a sea of tyranny," he said. "They've taken the fight to ISIS.

"Behind the front lines I've witnessed a genuine movement for democracy, equality and tolerance."

From Walford to Syria. Two very different worlds.
