Simon Cowell has explained why he was unable to appear on the first X Factor live show over the weekend and vowed to take better care of himself for the sake of his young son.

The music mogul was rushed to hospital after being discovered unconscious at the bottom of his staircase by his security team early morning on Friday, and was notably absent on the show over the weekend:

His three-year-old son was in the house at the time of the incident but was looked after by a nanny when medics arrived.

Although the 58-year-old was subject to a brain scan in the wake of the accident, he has revealed that he fainted due to low blood pressure, and vowed to make serious changes to his lifestyle for the sake of his young child.

He told the Sun: "Sometimes we get a reminder that we're not invincible and this was certainly mine. It was a huge shock.

"They think I fainted because I had low blood pressure and so I have got to really take good care of myself to sort that out.

"After all, I am a dad and have more responsibility than ever."

The accidentally reportedly happened after he had begun to feel dizzy during an early-morning attempt to get a cup of warm milk. Bodyguards alerted by the noise then called emergency services to get help.

He was taken to Chelsea and Westminster NHS Hospital, where he was given a precautionary brain scan to check for blood clots, tumours, internal injuries or signs of aneurysm.

Britain's Got Talent judge Alesha Dixon stepped in for the first X Factor live show while Simon recovered.

A Sun source said: "The medics told Simon it would be too quick for him to return to work 48 hours after a serious medical episode.

"Alesha was a natural stand-in. She's well liked and knows what she's doing."
