Taking on a live-action remake of a cherished Disney classic is a bold move - which means if you're gonna do it, you have to go in with all guns blazing.

It seems that's precisely what's been done for the forthcoming new Lion King flick, which has absolute big dogs Donald Glover and ONLY-BLOODY-BEYONCÉ in the lead roles as Simba and Nala.

You also need to ensure there's enough of a difference to justify remaking the original film in the first place - which, presumably, is why Pumbaa is no longer the jolly, grinning buffoon we knew and love from the 1994 original.

In fact, he's far from it.

Many people have taken to social media to say how 'scary' he looks in his new, gnarly form.

"This poster is screaming 'SETH ROGEN IS PUMBAA' at me like I owe it money," one person tweeted.

Another asked: "What the hell? Are you trying to scare children with Pumbaa?"

Others, however, have less sympathy for troubled fans, with one writing: "To the people who found CGI Pumbaa scary: THAT'S WHAT A WARTHOG LOOKS LIKE."

A second added: "I don't understand why people are saying #Pumbaa looks so scary. He looks like a warthog. This is a real warthog. Bada bing bada boom, live action Pumbaa."

Meanwhile, others are busy thinking about something else:

"Everyone seems to be talking about how scary the Photo-Realistic Pumbaa is, but I'm sitting over here concerned by the fact I didn't realise his name ended with two As," one honest Twitter user said.

Mind you, even if Pumbaa's giving you the creeps, at least his sidekick Timon is absolutely bloody adorabe.

Once again, the film will take us to the African savanna, where future king Simba must follow his heart to his own royal destiny, teaming up with newfound friends to go head-to-head with his Uncle Scar and take back what is rightfully his.
