This year is on course to be a real nostalgia trip for kids of the 90s - first Disney's The Lion King gets a live-action reboot, then Pokémon makes a return to cinemas and now one artist has reimagined one of the decade's favourite cartoon duos.

George Evangelista, from Melbourne, Australia, has used his artistic talents to give his followers a look at what Animaniacs spin-off Pinky and the Brain might look like if the two cartoon lab mice were given a CGI reworking for a live-action adaptation.

He posted the recreation on Instagram with the caption: "Time to start my 80s/90s love and planning to take over the world with my rendition of Pinky and the Brain!"

The image has received thousands of likes and hundreds of comments - with many people saying his work would slot perfectly into a live-action reboot.

One person said: "That would be a cool movie."

Another commented: "Wow George...that's awesome bro! Totally takes me back to my cartoon watching days!"

While a third added: "This would be awesome in a live action film. Well done."

First appearing in Warner Bros. cartoon compendium Animaniacs in 1993, Pinky and the Brain got their own TV show two years later, which lasted for four seasons until 1998.

It focused on the adventures of two genetically enhanced laboratory mice who reside in a cage in the Acme Labs research facility.

The sinister-looking, megalomaniacal Brain is the smarter of the pair, while Pinky is his taller, less intellectually-gifted accomplice.

Their one objective is to conquer the world, as we were reminded at the start of every episode as they reeled off their signature quotes - with Pinky asking: "Gee, Brain, what do you want to do tonight?"

And Brain replying: "The same thing we do every night, Pinky - try to take over the world!"

In January 2018, the streaming service Hulu announced plans to reboot Animaniacs in association with Warner Bros. and Amblin - well, if production teams are short on ideas, they could always consider going to George.

Speaking of whom, he didn't stop with Pinky and the Brain - turns out George has recreated loads of our favourite heroes from the worlds of film and TV.

From Pokémon and Godzilla to Street Sharks and X-Men, there's a whole host of images on his social media channels, many of which will take his followers back to the halcyon characters of their youth.

Also popular on his page, his Pokémon art work also looks like it would slot perfectly into Ryan Reynold's upcoming movie Detective Pikachu.

Impressive stuff.
