Someone’s Listed A ‘Vintage’ Blockbuster Membership Card For $810 On Ebay

The item description for the ‘Blue Yellow’ card doesn’t give much else away, other than: “Perfect condition!”

For many people of a certain age, a trip to Blockbuster was the ultimate Saturday night treat, complete with a bag or two of microwave popcorn and, if you were lucky, some crispy chilli beef, egg-fried rice and spring rolls from the Chinese takeaway.

But while the chain managed to survive the dawn of the DVD, it could not withstand the global phenomenon that is online streaming - where we don't even need to stand up to pop a disc in the player, let alone walk 20 minutes down the road to a physical store.

Recently we reported that, because of this, there is now just one Blockbuster store left in the entire world, meaning the stores are almost entirely a thing of the past, a mere relic of our childhoods.

But it seems not everyone is seeing the widespread closures as a bad thing, as one enterprising individual has decided to use the situation to their advantage by flogging some memorabilia on eBay. Specifically, a Blockbuster membership card that they're selling for a cool $810 (£619).

The eBay listing.

Oh, and don't forget to add at least $28.48 (£21.78) for shipping onto that.

The used 'Vintage Blockbuster Video Rental Membership Card' was issued back in August 2005, which means it's almost 15 years old and that it's lived through both the Blockbuster heyday and its demise.

What else did you want to know, anyway? It's not like you'd be splashing over $800 on the thing...

I mean, I suppose it would be good to at least get a detailed list of every single film the card's owner had rented (are we talking There's Something About Mary and Clerks, or all the J-Lo chick flicks under the sun?), or even some information about the person behind the membership.

The listing doesn't give much away.

Alas, all we know is that it's being shipped from Tampa, Florida, and that the eBayer - faxo-bisse - selling the card is a 'Longtime member'.

Mind you, that's not stopped people from feeling intrigued; at the time of publishing, the item has 19 watchers.

There's plenty more like it out there as well, with people who viewed this item having also viewed another Blockbuster membership card (that one's listed for just $19), a Blockbuster carrier bag ($4.99), a Blockbuster receipt ($18.99) and an unopened '1990s Blockbuster Music Gift Card' ($169.69), among other things.

Damnit, why didn't I just keep all my old Blockbuster crap!?
