Spider-Man Free To Appear In Venom Franchise After Sony/Marvel Deal Reached

Both parties came to their spidey senses in the end...

After the news that Sony and Marvel have finally reached an agreement regarding the Spider-Man franchise, how about the exciting news that the web-slinging superhero could even appear in the next Venom movie?

Yep, apparently the new deal that has been brokered between the two formerly opposed studios means that as well as Spidey returning for another movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there's also scope for him to flit between the two studios.

In short, that means that he can appear in Sony's Universe of Marvel Characters that includes - of course - Venom and his symbiote cronies.

Marvel supremo Kevin Feige teased the possible crossover potential in a recent interview after the deal was brokered.

Feige told Variety: "I am thrilled that Spidey's journey in the MCU will continue, and I and all of us at Marvel Studios are very excited that we get to keep working on it.

"Spider-Man is a powerful icon and hero whose story crosses all ages and audiences around the globe. He also happens to be the only hero with the superpower to cross cinematic universes, so as Sony continues to develop their own Spidey-verse you never know what surprises the future might hold."

Amy Pascal, who produced the first two Tom Holland solo Spider-Man films and will also produce the third, said: "This is terrific. Peter Parker's story took a dramatic turn in Far From Home and I could not be happier we will all be working together as we see where his journey goes."

This is all a dramatic turnaround from where we were at just a matter of weeks ago. Back then, it looked as if Marvel's Spider-Man franchise starring Tom Holland would remain forever unresolved.

In fact, Sony Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Tony Vinciquerra had previously said that 'the door is closed' on future Spider-Man collaborations with Marvel Studios.

They've changed their tune now.

Meanwhile, it seemed like the potential meeting between the morally questionable symbiote of Tom Hardy's Venom franchise and Spidey was unlikely too. Now, anything is possible.

That means that - despite the first film getting some pretty unfavourable reviews - Venom 2 could set up for a future crossover, which would definitely re-ignite interest in the franchise.

So, with Venom 2 set to hit screens on October 20 2020, and Spider-Man 3 - which is probably not what it'll end up being called - due for release on July 16 2021, there's plenty of time to weave the two worlds together.
