With his long, slimy tongue and hyper extended jaw and teeth, Venom is the symbiote and sentient alien that plagued Spider-Man in many issues in the comic books.

The parasite initially used Spider-Man as its host to shapeshift into Venom, but eventually moved onto other human forms after Spider-Man realised the danger it posed to him. Venom was initially seen as a villain, but soon became more of an anti-hero and nearly even a hero at one point.

Venom made his first cameo appearances in issues #298 and #299 of Amazing Spider-Man, before fully appearing as a character in issue #300 in 1988. Venom is recognised by its burly figure, blue-black costume and frightening face.

Everyone has been hearing the rumours floating around about a potential Venom spinoff movie for a long time now, but it seems it could become a reality. The initial idea was palmed off for a long time, but as most of you know, you can't escape a parasite like Venom that easily.

The Hollywood Reporter has reported that Sony will be taking on the movie with Avi Arid and Matt Tolmach as the producers and Dante Harper as the script writer. There has been talks of an entire franchise being based around the alien symbiote. No word on when they're beginning production and planning, but hopefully it's soon.

The Venom movie is another following in the footsteps of other successful anti-heroes, namely the massive success of Deadpool and the eagerly awaited Suicide Squad. Will this spark the rise of more anti-hero movies?
