We're only half way through 2017 but 2018 is already shaping up to be a pretty awesome year for horror fans.

Following on from the news that 'The Nun' from The Conjuring franchise would be getting her own movie, it has since been revealed that creepy fucker 'The Crooked Man' will also be getting his own title.

The success of the first films has led to the creation of a cinematic universe in which the films are set. The 2014 release of Annabelle was the second in the franchise and it took in an impressive $256.9 million at the box office, so there were no doubts there would be more films.

Earlier this year, The Conjuring producer Peter Safran teased the idea of a film about the Crooked Man. He said: "I think there's something fascinating in the Crooked Man. Maybe tonally he's not as grounded as The Conjuring itself is and maybe that's why some people felt it wasn't what they were looking for in The Conjuring but I suspect a movie with him would be really really cool. I just love what that character can be. We have some interesting ideas for him."

Earlier this week, the Hollywood Reporter revealed the writers from the originals, Mike Van Waes and James Wan would be returning for the new movie. So, there's your guarantee of pant-shitting quality.

The Crooked Man's first appearance was in The Conjuring 2, which starred Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as paranormal researchers Ed and Lorraine Warren.

His character dons a pink bowler hat and circular specs, with a fear-inducing Cheshire cat-like smile during his short appearance. He was creepy AF, in case you need a reminder:

He was so eerie looking, Wan had to respond to comments that the character was made using CGI, to let people know that, actually, he was a very real person, played by Aliens Covenant actor Javier Botet.

As yet, the release date hasn't been announced for the Crooked Man spin-off, but The Nun is set to hit cinemas on Friday 13 July 2018.
