Stranger Things Fans Have Got Some Theories About Season Four

Stranger Things Fans Have Got Some Theories About Season Four

Just a little warning that this article contains spoilers about Stranger Things season three - so if you haven't watched it yet and plan on enjoying it spoiler-free, you might want to click away now.

OK, so by now you should all know that not only has season four of Stranger Things been confirmed by Netflix, but we've also had a teaser trailer.

Now, when I say 'teaser trailer' I do mean teaser because, frustratingly, it hardly gives anything away.

But one thing we are given in the new clip is the warning: "We're not in Hawkins anymore."

Although we have absolutely nothing to go on here, it hasn't stopped fans coming up with their own ideas about what that could mean.

Firstly, it could mean that season four will pick up with Eleven, Will, Joyce and Jonathan, who - as you'll remember - left the fictional town at the end of the last episode. They moved away from the area so are literally not in Hawkins anymore.

The second theory - and my personal favourite - is that season four will show us that my beloved Jim Hopper isn't dead after all and is actually still alive in Russia.

That would mean this time around we're heading east.

In case you can't remember, it looked as though Hopper had shuffled off this mortal coil, after Joyce was forced to detonate the machine that kept the gate to the Upside Down open.

Before we'd even had time to dry our eyes, though, a sneaky post-credit scene showed a couple of Russian guys making reference to an unseen 'American' being held in a cell. Fans thought this was likely to be Hopper who had somehow jumped into the Upside Down and reappeared in Russia.

Now, if you're hoping that Hopper actor David Harbour is able to shed on light on whether his character is dead or not, then I'm afraid you're out of luck.

In July he told Speaking to Entertainment Tonight that he had 'no idea' if the fan theory was correct.

He said: "I mean, I have no idea! I have no idea! I mean that, of course, is my hope too. It seems pretty crazy though.

"You know, that machine went off and blew up and Hopper seemed to be trapped there. He did glance around a little bit, but he seemed to be trapped and the machine exploded.

"And then you cut to, what was it? It starts with a 'K' or something - some town in Russia, right? Where there's some American and there's some other prisoner. I don't know, I mean it seems strange. I don't know how though."

So it looks like we'll just have to wait and see. As yet, Stranger Things 4 doesn't have a release date - but you can catch up with the previous three seasons on Netflix now.
