After ploughing through season three of Stranger Things, most fans of the show have been left with one burning question - when the hell do we get to watch season four?

Unfortunately, we're not really any closer to an answer on that one. However, the series is expected to begin shooting in autumn - which is something. A new listing on film trade publication Production Weekly indicates the science fiction show could resume filming as soon as October, according to ComicBook.com.

Of course, the amount of time between the beginning of shooting and the air date can vary greatly from one series to the next. But still, the sooner they crack on with it the better.

Netflix hasn't even confirmed season four is happening yet, but it seems it's only a matter of time. After all, season three proved record-breakingly popular. Netflix claims it has been watched more times than any other TV series or film on the streaming service in its first four days... and no one likes killing a cash cow, do they?

What's more, the show's creators, brothers Ross and Matt Duffer, have pretty much already figured out what they want to do with season four... So why not just go ahead and get it announced and put our minds at ease, Netflix?

Perhaps a little surprisingly considering how popular the most recent season was, the Duffers said they plan to make season four 'feel very different'.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Ross said: "We don't want to write ourselves in a corner, so we try to have these early discussions with the writers just to make sure that we're setting ourselves up to go in the right direction.

"We don't know a lot, but we do know a lot of the big broad strokes. At the end of season two, we knew about Billy. We knew that the Russians were going to come in. We didn't know the mall and stuff, but again, we know these big broad strokes."

He continued: "That's sort of where we are in season four. We have the big broad strokes. It's just now about filling in those lines in the details. We're pretty excited about where it's potentially going to go.

"Again, like we said, it's going to feel very different than this season. But I think that's the right thing to do and I think it'll be exciting."

The creators have a pretty good idea of what they want to do with the next series.

Elaborating in fairly vague terms, Matt said: "I think the biggest thing that's going to happen is it's going to open up a little bit, not necessarily in terms of scale, in terms of special effects, but open up in terms of allowing plot lines into areas outside of Hawkins."

But if you're not satisfied with the lack of specifics here from the show's creators, then you could get stuck into some much more detailed fan theories about season four... which of course are pure conjecture, but titillating nonetheless.
