'Stranger Things' Will Return Bigger And Better Than Ever In Summer 2019

They're taking a bit of extra time to make this the most expansive series so far.

Good news, Stranger Things fans. We now know when the next instalment from Hawkins, Indiana will be arriving.

The bad news is that it represents something of a delay for the release of the massively popular Netflix show.

It will arrive in Summer 2019. This much we now know.

Previous seasons of Stranger Things have all been released in the Autumn and in consecutive years, but this one is going to be different.

There is method to their madness too, because everyone involved says that this is going to be the biggest and best series to date.

We've already seen a strange retro mall advert that was passed off as a trailer recently, but it seems as if the consensus is that the people behind the show are going to be going big this time around, and that means that they need more time to get it ready.

Speaking at the Television Critics Association tour in Beverley Hills, Cindy Holland - Netflix's programming executive - said of the team behind the show: "The Duffer Brothers and Shawn Levy, they understand the stakes are high. They want to deliver something bigger and better than last year. I think it's going to be a fantastic season. It will be worth the wait."

"It's a really exciting season, just takes a little more time,"

Exciting times, sure enough.

It seems as if everyone has been told to toe the 'bigger and better than ever' line, too. Recently, David Harbour - Police Chief Jim Hopper to you and me - told Deadline: "If you're a real fan of Stranger Things and you really want to know, I would go look at the great films that were released in '85 - of which there were many - and just go down that list and think of the possibilities that we could be going with.

"I think it is a specific season to 1985, and so you'll see references to that.

"We're experimenting a lot this season, and we're taking risks, and I hope that they pay off, but they are risks. We're going into territories we've never been to before, and it's exciting."

Production for the next series began around the end of April this year, so if it's going to take until next summer to get it right, they'd better have something pretty special planned.

One thing seems to be certain, there will be a lot of attention devoted to the new 'Starcourt Mall' location.
