If you ever wondered just how hard it is to be a surgeon, then hopefully you watched Channel 5's live brain surgery operation.

Yeah, they performed an actual operation, on an actual person, on live television.

Surgeons were operating on a man who had suffered an aneurysm, which is a weakening of an artery in the brain, which can, in some cases, lead to severe internal bleeding and death.

The team on Channel 5's Operation Live have been showing viewers all week what's it like in a surgeon's theatre and viewers have been blown away.

Even though most people can guess that brain surgery is a tricky procedure, many couldn't believe how intricate the operation was and how much care was taken.

One person said: "Can't believe what I'm watching. Amazing skill. My breathing has become irregular as I watch in awe."

Another added: "This is extraordinary. How are these doctors and surgeons not on the same amount of money as professional footballers? These people are miracle workers god bless these people."

A third wrote: "Doctors in action...changing lives ...igniting career inspiration. It's amazing to see what you've dedicated your lives to, saving lives!! I am filled with so much hope."

Viewers were similarly amazed while watching a live kidney transplant earlier this week.

The show saw father Daniel donate one of his kidneys to his 33-year-old son Eugene, who suffers from Lupus. The long term condition affects the immune system and has sadly resulted in kidney failure for Eugene.

Daniel's kidney was take out before the live show, which took place at Royal London Hospital. The two-and-a-half-hour operation showed Eugene receiving the organ.

Viewers had a close up view of the operation, with cameras showing the internal procedure as well as the surgeons performing it.

Eugene, who is married with a three-year-old son, has a dialysis machine set up in his bedroom. The machine essentially cleans his blood, as his kidneys could no longer do it.

Speaking on the show, he said: "I can't wait to get rid of this machine because, although it is a lifesaver, it's a burden because it's restricted the kind of lifestyle I have.

"With the new kidney, I'll be able to go back to the normal lifestyle I used to have."

Another episode showed a spine straightening procedure, which is just incredible. The fact we can broadcast this across the UK is absolutely magical.
