Tom Hardy Confirms Taboo Will Get Second Series - And Be Even Better!

"I thought the gunpowder was for the Americans?"

"We are Americans."

Tom Hardy's final words at the end of series one left us wanting another series of Taboo, and now he's revealed we'll get more.

And it's only going to get better.

It was the dark, tense drama that gripped over eight million of us every Saturday for eight weeks on the BBC as Hardy's character, James Delaney, was involved in conspiracy, murder and betrayal.

Hardy said in a statement: "We are grateful and excited to continue our relationship with the BBC and FX in contributing to British drama."

Co-written by Hardy, his dad and Stephen Knight (the man who helped to create Who Wants To Be A Millionaire), Taboo cost millions of pounds per episode to create but received rave reviews across the board.

Over eight episodes, we witnessed Delaney return from Africa following his father's death and the struggle he had against the East India Company (EIC).

The EIC - at the time, the largest multinational corporation at work - has been described, by the show's writers, as the equivalent of taking on the CIA in America today.

Series two will apparently be bigger and better.

Knight said: "James Delaney will continue to explore many realities as he takes his band of misfits to a new world.

"In my mind, explosive stuff is going to happen, which will be great!"

If series two is just as good, then it can only strengthen Hardy's case to be the next James Bond.

He's the current joint favourite at 11/4, alongside Michael Fassbender.

Hardy first burst onto the scene 16 years ago in Ridley Scott's Black Hawk Down - incidentally, Scott also is an executive producer on Taboo.

Since then, it's gone strength to strength for the London lad.

Playing Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, the title character in Mad Max and the Kray Twins in Legend along with other massive roles.

When you add to this Inception, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, and his Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in The Revenant - Hardy is pretty much a national treasure already - and he's not even 40.

Although it's not yet clear when Hardy will be returning as James Delaney, we can hopefully expect him back on our screens later this year as Alfie Solomons in the fourth series of Peaky Blinders.

Tommy will be delighted...
