Fans of being angry about TV reboots ready your anger horns - a much-loved 90s show may be getting a reboot.

Viewers of '90s staple The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air will fondly remember coming home from school (or work) to watch the hi-jinks Will Smith got up to as he swapped poverty in Philadelphia for the trappings of wealth in Los Angeles.

After getting into a fight with a local hardnut, Smith was sent to LA to live with his Uncle Phil, Aunt Vivian and cousins Carlton, Hilary and Ashley.

Getting up to all sorts of capers (including one disturbing episode involving a gun), the show followed the Fresh Prince as he adapted to life in a different city, trying to fit in with the snooty and rich residents in his hometown and at his school.

However, as TMZ reported this week, the company which owns the rights to the show is looking into the possibility of a reboot and is trying to trademark the "Fresh Princess" on merchandise products in a bid to make some wonga.

Along with that, it's been suggested that they might replace the Prince with... a princess.

Reaction on social media was strong, to say the least.

Another used a Steve Carrell/The Office Gif, the go-to form of resistance on Twitter.

Television viewers may be traumatised at the thought of a girl playing the titular character in a reboot of the show, but consider this: imagine a 49-year-old Will Smith reviving his role, walking around his high school, trying to chat up girls in malls. It'd be creepy AF.

No one wants to see that. No one even wanted a second Wild Wild West film. Not even Will Smith.

Fans of the Ghostbusters series were similarly displeased in 2016 when it was released with a mostly female cast featuring Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy and Leslie Jones, who received a wave of racist and sexist abuse on Twitter.

If it does indeed happen at all, hopefully the re-release of the Fresh Prince will be met with less shit and people will enjoy the reboot or, ya know, just switch to another channel.
