Whenever I hear someone talking about The Purge (the first one) the most common compliant is: 'Ah, I really liked the concept... but I hated what they did with it'. Then, there was Purge 2: Anarchy which did much better. In fact, it has a 6.5/10 on IMDb which is comparatively much better than the original which rocked in at a 5.6.
Well, there's now The Purge: Election Year and it looks like they've taken on those constructive comments and ran with them. Sadly, without Ethan Hawke. However, they did apparently have a $10 million budget, so - swings and roundabouts.
The story behind this installment is that a female senator is campaigning against the annual purge, so clearly her opponents want to take this opportunity of 'all laws being suspended for 12 hours' to get rid of her.
I'll be honest, the trailer made me jump. Which can only be a good thing, right?
