I think it's safe to say we've all had our fair share of terrible film tips: "Oh you should definitely watch Jack and Jill, it's hilarious. It's got Adam Sandler in it." Last time I listen to you, Dad.

But when the likes of Stephen King and Guillermo del Toro say you should watch a film, then you should probably go ahead and watch it.

The movie in question is brand new horror flick Tigers Are Not Afraid, which is written and directed by Issa López.

The film was actually finished in 2017 and has been doing the festival circuit ever since, racking up praise from big names along the way.

Stephen King - who wrote the likes of It, The Shining and Carrie, so it's fair to say he knows a thing or two about horror - said the film had him 'under its spell' within two minutes, describing it as 'magical realism'.

Meanwhile, Guillermo del Toro - the man behind Pan's Labyrinth and The Shape of Water - described the film as 'innovative, compassionate and mesmerising'.

But if you'd like to know just how exactly you are going to be put under a spell and mesmerised, then here is a synopsis of the film: "A haunting horror fairytale set against the backdrop of Mexico's devastating drug wars, Tigers Are Not Afraid follows a group of orphaned children armed with three magical wishes, running from the ghosts that haunt them and the cartel that murdered their parents.

"Filmmaker Issa López creates a world that recalls the early films of Guillermo del Toro, imbued with her own gritty urban spin on magical realism to conjure a wholly unique experience that audiences will not soon forget."

López said the story 'needs to be told now more than ever'.

Tigers Are Not Afraid has received some very lofty praise.

According to Deadline, she said: "The stories of these children fighting for survival just across the border, and the dreams and nightmares that follow them, is one that needs to be told now more than ever.

"Fantasy and horror are sometimes the best vehicle to tell the most vital stories. With Tigers, I set out to do just that... and in putting it on the screen, Shudder is letting this story be heard. I couldn't be happier or prouder."

Tigers Are Not Afraid will be selected cinemas from 23 August in the US before heading to streaming service Shudder. Meanwhile in the UK, you could always get it on Blu-ray... though I'm guessing you might also have to buy a Blu-ray player.
