Top Gear fans have slammed the show online for airing a 'badly-timed' gun control joke.

Chris Harris was chatting to presenter Matt LeBlanc about driving a Ferrari F12 TDF during Sunday night's pre-recorded episode when he made the throwaway comment.

When asked what he thought of the vehicle, he replied: "It's scarier. It looks angry. It sounds angry. Everything about it is angry.

"I can't believe you need a licence to buy a gun but you can just walk in and buy one of these."

Fans took to Twitter to hit out at the show for airing the comment hours after news broke about the Orlando mass shooting which left 50 dead.

"Top Gear just compared buying a Ferrari to buying a gun. Rather surprised that wasn't cut out in light of events," wrote one fan.

Another posted: "Bit of a badly timed gun joke from Top Gear there."

Top Gear airs at 8pm on Sunday over on BBC Two.
