Viewers Outraged After Saturday Night Takeaway 'Fix'

Suspicious to say the least.

As one door shuts, another opens - as they say. So, yes, as Ant and Dec departed our screens as this series of Saturday Night Takeaway ended, they'll be back next week for the return of Britain's Got Talent.

However, the series didn't end without a fair bit of controversy.

The final show in this run came live from Florida, with a classic ending at Disneyland which saw all the regular people who feature on the programme dancing to the Mary Poppins song 'Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious'.

Before that, though, it was the staple part of the show - 'Win The Ads'. Simple enough, answer a few questions and you can win all the offers that are given within a TV ad-break.

That part is now under severe scrutiny from the public who believe the duo fixed it for the contestant to win.

Window cleaner Neil Scott had come up on to the stage and, to win all the prizes after his gamble to answer one final question, was asked: "In which hand does the Statue of Liberty hold her torch?"

After a bit of hesitation, Neil said: "I'm going to say left, I haven't got a clue."

There were a few groans from the audience, which then prompted Ant to ask: "You're going to say what?" With no cameras on the duo at this point, it's unknown if they, too, were offering clues.

"Right," Neil responds, laughing as he does so. Ant asks him again, and Neil confirms it is the right hand in which the famous green statue holds her torch.

A brief pause is followed by Dec shouting: "It's the right answer." Cue a large amount of cheers and a hug from the two hosts.

As the three embrace, Ant told Neil: "I'm not finishing the series on a loser, believe me."

It left viewers fuming.

Another wrote: "Saturday night takeaway. .we have to accept your first answer??? But we accept your second answer...cheating."

A spokesperson for Saturday Night Takeaway commented: "We are thrilled for the contestant."

Was the show right to end on a winner? Surely, the prize company who set this all up would have been prepared to pay-out anyway? The show was on its big ending, it had to go out on a high? Or is it unfair that someone gets helped like that?

So many questions, so little time. And it wouldn't be the first enraging moment from the series. The Geordie pair were forced to apologise off-air after a contestant swore live on the show.

The girl can be seen mouthing the words 'fuck off' during a competition segment on the show.

All that aside, you can't not love live television and the drama it throws up. Ant and Dec seem to be the kings of it, too.
