The first trailer for the forthcoming Matt Damon and Christian Bale film, Ford V Ferrari has dropped.

The movie, which lands in cinemas on 15 November, sees Damon and Bale star respectively as American car designer Carroll Shelby and driver Ken Miles, who team up to build a revolutionary race car to dethrone Ferrari as world racing's top dog.

In the trailer, we see the folk at Ford expressing their desires to build the 'greatest race car the world has ever seen', asking Damon's Shelby what it would take.

"Well it takes something money can't buy," Shelby replies, explaining they need a 'pure racer behind the wheel of your car'.

"That's Ken Miles," he says.

Then ensues a recruitment drive for the man Shelby insists is just a 'puppy dog', even though we then spot Miles land a pretty hefty punch on him.

The film's synopsis reads: "Academy Award-winners Matt Damon and Christian Bale star in FORD v FERRARI, based on the remarkable true story of the visionary American car designer Carroll Shelby (Damon) and the fearless British-born driver Ken Miles (Bale), who together battled corporate interference, the laws of physics, and their own personal demons to build a revolutionary race car for Ford Motor Company and take on the dominating race cars of Enzo Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France in 1966."

Directed by James Mangold (Logan, Walk the Line), Ford V Ferrari also stars The Punisher's Jon Bernthal, Caitriona Balfe, Tracy Letts, Josh Lucas, Noah Jupe, Remo Girone and Ray McKinnon .

Ahead of the trailer drop for the film, Damon and Bale rocked up to the 2019 Indianapolis 500 - the world's oldest major automobile race - where they were co-honorary starters.

As well as speaking to press, the two also got to meet drivers at the event, and even went for a 'hot lap' with racing legend Mario Andretti.

Film fans are already excited for the movie to drop, with one tweeting: "This is going to be SSOOOOOO good."

Someone else said: "Holy hell this looks great."

A third wrote: "This makes me want to own a Ford Mustang now."

Others said they were excited to see an original film hit screens at a time when cinemas are dominated by remakes and sequels, with one commenting: "Finally a movie that isn't a sequel, prequel, or remake that looks interesting!!!!"

Another shared their sentiment, writing: "Finally a movie based on a true story that's not a remake! Awesome story too!!"
