We're barely halfway through January and already we've been bombarded with trailers for some upcoming blockbusters making their way to the big screen this year.

We've had Spider-Man slinging his web in the teaser for superhero sequel Far From Home, Keanu Reeves kicking ass in John Wick 3, not to mention the unexpected arrival of the first teaser for Ghostbusters 3, which was released less than a day after the project was announced.

But forget about cape-wearers, angry assassins and ghost hunters for now, because we've got a film with a premise so ludicrous, it might just be one of the most ingenious releases of the entire year. We're talking about The Man Who Killed Hitler And Then The Bigfoot.

Directed by Robert D. Krzykowski and set for release on 8 February 2019, early reviews are claiming the film is 'unlike anything you'll see all year' - and we have reason to believe this is true if the trailer is anything to go by.

The plot is shown to be exactly what it says on the tin: Sam Elliott (known for his roles as Virgil Earp in Tombstone and The Stranger in The Big Lebowski) stars as a legendary World War II veteran who many years ago assassinated Adolf Hitler - an incredible secret that he's frustratingly unable to share with the world.

As he comes to the winter years of his life, the assassin gets a visit from the FBI and the Royal Canadian Mountain Police. Why? Because they need him to take out Bigfoot, obviously.

While it might sound like your standard scrappy B-movie, the film's actually set to be much more than that.

Here's what critic Haleigh Foutch had to say about the flick for Collider: "Far removed from the camp and exploitation elements the title suggests, The Man Who Killed Hitler And Then The Bigfoot is a surprisingly serious, poetic meditation on regret and mortality led by the always extraordinary Sam Elliott."

She continued: "It's deep stuff, well-executed by debut director Robert D. Krzykowski, just know what you're walking into and don't come for Bigfoot action. Come for Sam Elliott doing his best weary badass, and definitely come for the sight of him kicking ass to the sound of Bill Withers' Use Me."

The film has a stunning team behind it too, with Academy Award Winner Douglas Trumbull (Blade Runner) on visual effect duties and Krzykowski penning the script too. Meanwhile, Aidan Turner, Caitlin FitzGerald and Ron Livingston star alongside the A Star is Born actor.

So if you're looking for a film that delivers on authenticity, originality and some seriously strong acting from Elliot - one that's guaranteed to be unlike anything you'll see this year - check out The Man Who Killed Hitler And Then The Bigfoot this February. It'd make for the perfect anti-Valentine's date night.Featured Image Credit: RLJE Films
