As far as TV quiz shows go, Pointless is pretty decent, so it's no surprise it's had the longevity it has had. Alexander Armstrong and Richard Osman recently presented the 1000th episode of the show and it's due to be aired in early 2017.

The special edition of the show will see the duo doing the old switcheroo, with Richard taking over the presenting duties and Alexander in the seat behind the laptop.

Speaking of the edition, Richard said: "Swapping roles was a real treat but let's just say I'm not in a hurry to do it again - Xander's job is much harder than it looks!"

Armstrong added: "I can't tell you how exciting this is for Richard and me! I imagine it's probably fairly obvious how much we love making Pointless - but to pass the 1,000 episode mark is a great tribute to a show that so many people work so hard on. Long may it prosper!"

To mark 1000th it will feature some of viewer favourite players from Pointless history who will play for a £2,500 jackpot.

Pointless began back in 2009, together with The Chase and Tipping Point, it began what I'm coining 'the golden age of late-afternoon television' - setting the hearts of pensioners, JSA-claimants and school-children to one relentless, all-consuming beat.
