A university student has gone viral after coming up with a theory that she is Madeleine McCann.

Harriet Brookes messaged her mates in a group chat detailing the reasons why she could be the missing girl.

Getting straight to the point, she wrote: "'Right guys. I don't usually believe in conspiracy theories but honestly I think I'm Madeleine McCann."

She then went on:

It all sounds pretty convincing, doesn't it? Well, sadly, there's a catch. When Madeleine disappeared in Portugal in 2007, she was three, that means she would be 14 now, however, Harriet is over 18. It doesn't add up.

Nevertheless that didn't stop Twitter having a massive reaction to the conspiracy:

I guess if you want to believe, you want to believe.
