A bloke in Bangladesh has re-imagined this year's World Cup using the characters from hit fantasy series Game of Thrones - and it's just about ingenious as you'd imagine.

Twitter user Abdullah Al-Mamun introduced his thread by explaining: "If this World Cup was Game of Thrones, which team would be which character?"

He then launched into our first team, Germany, who he reckons would be Ned Stark, the head of House Stark, the Lord of Winterfell, Lord Paramount and Warden of the North, and later Hand of the King to King Robert I Baratheon... who was killed off much earlier than many of us anticipated.

"Nobody thought he would die, but his head got chopped off in the first round," Abdullah said, making a very fair comparison.

Next up was Belgium, aka Olenna Tyrell - who "kills off key players before dying just before the final battle."

Brazil would be Joffrey Baratheon ("Makes a lot of tantrum before being poisoned by Olenna Tyrell"), while Argentina would be Oberyn Martell ("Was not in the equation to star. Suddenly got into the play, danced a lot. Then got killed off brutally").

As the 'ultimate underdog', Abdullah placed Croatia with the almighty Jon Snow.

"Fell behind in multiple situations," he explained. "Everyone thought they were dead only to rise from the Ashes."

England would be Hodor, repeating 'the same line over and over again and dies trying to defend a lead', and Russia would be Sansa Stark because everyone thought she was screwed from day one, but somehow 'wiggled through to a fairly formidable finish'.

Spain? Petyr 'Littlefinger' Baelish, obvs. Abdullah writes: "Does a lot of passing only to get caught by Sansa who was supposed to be under his control."

So what about our ultimate champions? That's right, if the French team were a Game of Thrones character they would of course be the Night King.

"Was an ominous presence that no one really talked about at the beginning," Abdullah says, adding that they 'gradually became quite scary'.

"Haven't lost ground in all of the tournament. Breaks down really strong defenses. Just converts people from different places to create the team."

Unsurprisingly, the thread has racked up thousands of likes and retweets - meaning people seem to agree with Abdullah's incredible GoT analogy.
