Almost Two Decades Later, Players Are Still Finding New 'Silent Hill 2' Features
The terrifying, mysterious Silent Hill 2 is 17 years old - but that hasn't stopped fans from going back into the game and deep diving through some of gaming's most horrific scenes just to find hidden secrets.
Recently, Twitter users have unearthed some gems in the game - offering players the ability to save anywhere, as well as a fully functional mini-map.
All you have to do is beat the game three times first.
Then, once you get past the infamous alternative 'dog ending' - where it's revealed a dog in a control room was orchestrating the events of the game the entire time in a surreal cutscene - you can unlock these additional features.
Unfortunately, you can only get the ending by beating the game two times before - so the mini-map and save features will only be able available on your fourth run through, meaning you'll probably have nailed it down already, but it's still a fun thing to find out.

Once in the dog ending you have to press Start + L2 + Square + L3 to unlock the mini-map, or D-Pad Left + Left Analog Stick Left + Right Analog Stick Left + L2 + L1 + L3 to get the save anywhere option.

Seventeen years on and with new elements still being discovered, Silent Hill remains one of the greatest PS2 games, and one of the best horror games of all time.
What other secrets could possibly be found in the murky forests of Silent Hill? At this rate, we wouldn't be surprised to find a whole new, previously undiscovered area before the game turned 20.
The latest game in the Silent Hill mould is set to be Death Stranding; a spiritual successor to the franchise and the cancelled Silent Hills project. Directed by Hideo Kojima and featuring contributions from Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, Lea Seydoux and Lindsay Wagner.
