The world is at war in 2042 and personalised weapons have become somewhat of a necessity. The latest innovations in weapons technology that we've seen in recent years have been truly mind-blowing. And so, when images of a new robot dog started to surface on social media platforms recently, people got very excited.
This cutting edge technology is the latest version of the canine-inspired weapon, Ranger, which is becoming the side-kick of choice for many soldiers on the battlefield.
That's right, man's best friend has had an upgrade but this very good boy is not for cuddling. Your own personal bodyguard, Ranger follows you around once summoned and engages automatically with enemy targets using its high-powered mounted gun.
Soldiers can also issue commands to Ranger via the Ping system, telling it to move to a specific location or attack a group of enemy soldiers. And, if you're in a really sticky situation, C5 can be strapped to the robot which can then be sent behind enemy lines, where you can remotely detonate the explosives. Ranger can also be told to self-destruct if required.

Samira Finch, Lead Engineer behind the latest model of Ranger told us: "The secret's out! We're very excited to launch Ranger to the general public having worked on perfecting this model for years."
"Ranger gives soldiers that extra strategic edge on the battlefield, so for example you can use it as a decoy when attempting to capture an objective, or as a '5th squad member' who can battle enemies alongside your squad."
In these war-ridden times, we could all do with a bit of back up, and one soldier whose life was saved by Ranger in a recent conflict was Simon Phillips, who said: "I was being backed into a corner by a group of enemy soldiers. I was on my own, separated from my squad and running low on ammo.

"I called Ranger and it dropped from the sky straight away. He immediately started helping to fight me out of the tight spot I was in. When the enemy had backed off enough, I strapped the C5 to it, sent it into the enemy soldiers where I detonated the explosives. I don't think I'd be here today without it."
