The wait is almost over

The fourth season of Fortnite is upon us, and it's bringing some pretty big changes with it.

If you've been keeping up to date, you know that a comet was about to hit the world, there have been in-game stories about alien abductions and strange things appearing in the sky. Well, the comet has now hit and left a mark that will change the Fortnite world forever.

For a start, there is a whole new location to explore. The comet left a giant crater when it hit, and there are new and interesting things to be found there.

The area is called Hop Rocks, and - fittingly enough - if you go there you'll find some glowing rocks that you can eat up and gain the ability to fly.

Well, sort of. You gain a kind of low gravity power that means you can float about, which has got to be fun.

In the lead-up to the release of the new season, the game's production company Epic Games has been teasing the comet strike, as well as new superheroes in a marketing campaign.

We still don't know exactly what this means - perhaps that some form of alien life form will arrive on the comet? Perhaps not. We will have to wait and see.

One big question was whether the Tilted Towers location would survive the comet strike.

Fans have been speculating for a while about whether the comet would wipe out the towers because of a few things. Firstly, there have been meteors hitting the map for a while now, and one hit the Towers the other day.

There have been rumours that are based around everything from (seemingly) random controller vibrations, to the online astrologists simply working it out from the position of the comet in the skies.

However, a more likely version is that it is a really unpopular location. A lot of players jump there, a lot of players die there - it's basically an all-bets-are-off zone in the middle of the map. The argument is that the game would be better off without so much of the action on a map being concentrated on one location.

A lot of people want it gone, and this could be the perfect opportunity for the developers to do it without having to admit that it was their fault.

As for the rest of the additions and details about season 4, we'll just have to wait until Epic Games are ready. Downtime in advance of season 4 commencing started a few hours back at 4am EST.

Whatever happens, Epic Games assures us that 'the world will never be the same'.

Brace for impact.
