We all knew this day would come. Every since everyone started taking the piss with bots and the like, we had to know that the gravy train was soon going to stop.
To be fair, it's a game with the sole intention of getting you out and about in the world rather than sitting on your arse powerdrinking Red Bull and eating Doritos. Well, I guess it also wants to make money but let's ignore that for a second.

Anyway, Niantic (the people behind the game) are putting their collective feet down and sending a clear message to cheaters - fuck off.
According to The Verge, the bans that are being reporting are apparently aimed at those of you relying on GPS spoofing bots, and 'other software techniques'.

This is supported by a note for those affected by bans that appeared on Niantic's offical website. This reads: "Your account was permanently terminated for violations of the Pokémon GO Terms of Service. This includes, but is not limited to: falsifying your location, using emulators, modified or unofficial software and/or accessing Pokémon GO clients or backends in an unauthorized manner including through the use of third party software.
"Our goal is to provide a fair, fun and legitimate game experience for everyone. We will continue to work with all of you to improve the quality of the gameplay, including ongoing optimization and fine tuning of our anti-cheat system."

We're not sure how they're figuring out who's cheating, but it seems that they're clamping down - hard.
