Microsoft Will Allow Xbox Gamers To Play Against PS4 And PC Players

Potentially huge news if other companies co-operate.

PlayStation or Xbox? A fierce debate that's been raging for over a decade now.

But soon it might not be an issue, or at least there'll be a solid way to end the debate, as players may actually be able to compete against each other.

According to The Verge, Microsoft is announcing a big new feature for Xbox owners today: cross-network play. It's something the software giant has hinted at for years, and something gamers have dreamed of for even longer. And now it seems the reality of PS4, Xbox One, and PC players playing the same game together might finally happen.

One of the first titles to support the feature? Driving/football crossover Rocket League. Microsoft also notes there is an "open invitation for other networks to participate as well," strongly hinting that Sony or other console manufacturers could enable gamers to play their friends regardless of what device they're using.

If this were to go ahead it will truly change the shape of the gaming landscape and would likely open up the number of friends you could play online with. No more having to sacrifice your PlayStation mates for your Xbox buddies or vice versa.

However, if console gamers could play a PC gamer that would open up a whole new can of worms as a mouse and keyboard offer a lot more control than a traditional gamepad.
