Two Thirds Of Gamers Want PS5 Over Xbox Series X, Poll Finds

Sony looks set to win the next round of the console wars

A poll of LADbible readers has shown that more than two thirds of gamers would buy a PS5 ahead of an Xbox Series X.

It is a battle that has raged for decades now, and is about to enter a dramatic fourth round, but the early signs seem to be that more people are going to be buying the latest PlayStation model than the Xbox Series X when they both come out.

Well, that's what the 7,500 or so people who voted in our poll told us, anyway.

Of that number, just under 65 percent said that they'd be taking up Sony on its offer instead of Microsoft.

Sony

The two consoles are set to be released around the same time as each other, and both are going to have some exciting games in prospect.

However, judging by this result, it seems as if the PS5 is just that bit more interesting to the average gamer.

The Series X will hit shelves on 10 November, as well as a stripped back version called the Series S, whereas the PS5 doesn't have an official release date, but it seems as if it'll be around the same time.

'Holiday 2020' is the best we can offer at this stage.

Oh, and the PS5 doesn't actually have a confirmed price yet, and both companies were trying to keep those cards close to their chest until relatively recently.

Now, Microsoft has said that the Series X will be priced at £449 when it comes onto the market. Sony's offering is likely to be there or thereabouts in terms of eventual price.

To be fair, in terms of technical spec - if you're not an expert, at least - there doesn't seem to be a lot separating them.

They're both going to feature real time ray tracing - a sophisticated light rendering technique only seen before in high-spec gaming PCs - and SSD storage to bring down load times and generally speed things up.

Microsoft

Both consoles also have controllers that are pretty much like the older consoles, so not much other than personal preference in that, either.

What makes the PS5 so much more desirable to the respondents of this poll, then?

One person said: "PlayStation will always be number 1, yes Xbox is a more powerful console but that means s***, the Sega Genesis was more powerful than the NES when it was released but where is Sega now?

"Console wars have been around for years but it's the games that matter not the hardware..."

Another said: "PS will always be superior"

However, one cheery soul said: "Real gamers play on the PC."

Well, cheers for that.
