'Red Dead Online' Will Include 32-Player Battle Royale Mode

'Red Dead Online' Will Include 32-Player Battle Royale Mode

It'll be like the World Cup but with guns and cowboys

This may not be shocking news, but it is exciting news nonetheless - the Red Dead Online beta will include a battle royale mode.

The 'Make It Count' game mode will be comprised of 32 players and involves scavenging for weapons within an ever-shrinking arena - and, of course, it is last cowboy or cowgirl standing.

It always seemed likely such a fighting format would be included in the online version of Red Dead Redemption 2, given the popularity of battle royale variations on other games, such as Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4's Blackout mode.

Up until now, what exactly the beta will consist of has been somewhat hush hush - however, Twitter user @illogicalMods has spilt the beans, having allegedly obtained the info through a 'social club website'.

You can see the full list of games modes in the following tweets (though you might need to squint):

The online version of the game is being trickled out to gamers this week in staggered and somewhat confusing tiers.

Those who bought the Ultimate Edition can enjoy the beta online version from today, while those who bought the game on launch day (26 October) can play from tomorrow.

If you bought the game within three days of its release, you are rewarded with access to online from Thursday, and if you were so slack that you weren't out in the Wild West within those first few days then you have to wait til Friday.

Comprende, hombre?

But don't despair too much if you have to wait til Friday - remember, this is only the beta phase, so it's bound to be a but glitchy to begin with. Plus, Friday is only a few days away. Surely you can find something to fill your time until then... surely?

In case you need your appetite whetting a little bit more, here is a description of what you can expect from Red Dead Online beta mode, direct from the horse's mouth (the horse is Rockstar Games by the way, and a Wild West reference, all rolled into one).

"Create and customise your character, tailor your abilities to suit your play style and head out into a new frontier full of things to experience," Rockstar's blurb reads.

"Explore this huge world solo or with friends. Form or join a Posse to ride with up to seven players; gather around the fire at your Camp; head out hunting or fishing; visit bustling towns; battle enemy gangs and attack their hideouts; hunt for treasure; take on missions.

"Interact with familiar characters from across the five states; or fight against other outlaws in both spontaneous skirmishes and pitched set-piece battles; compete with other players or whole Posses in open world challenges and much more."

So there you go.
